"I Don't Know What to Say."

Bet you've heard that one before.

One of the driving forces that keeps me writing for In Repose is the memory of other people's reactions after my brother's death. I used to think that one day I might write a book titled the way this post is titled. That was long before blogs existed.

I lost people who I thought were my friends during the time my family was grieving. My relationship with my real friends deepened. There really are things one should say, and things one should not say.

One of the very best pieces of writing I have ever read on the subject, and I have read a lot, was a recent blog article written by Carrie Stuckmann at Candid Carrie. Want to know what to say? What NOT to say? What to offer to do? What means the most to a person sick with grief? Carrie's article is the most heartfelt, concise and helpful information I have ever come across. If nothing else, bookmark this link and read it later. You WILL need to read it, because someday soon, someone you love will lose someone THEY love, and then you WILL indeed, know what to say.

I love Lijit

If you don't know what Lijit is, you should. Its a widget that I have and that  YOU can have on your blog too.

Check out my shiny new Lijit badge at the top of the left hand column and the search feature underneath it. I have been using Lijit since last summer, but I just got the badge today and I am tickled about it. Lijit has been featuring In Repose Blog on their home page since last August.

Well, what is this thing called Lijit? You can visit Lijit's site to read more about what it is and how it works in detail, but I'll repeat a sentence I read there to describe it here:

Lijit allows you to easily create your own search engine.

So basically, if you, dear reader, use this widget and enter a term in that little search box on In Repose Blog, Lijit searches my blog, bookmarks, photos, blogroll and more to provide you with all the information I might have learned and stored about exactly what you are interested in.

In addition Lijit gives me, the widget holder, a detailed report and statistics about the searches and I then have a better understanding of my readers, and also, what searches brought them here to my blog.

One search that continuously surprises me with visitors is "How to Kill scorpions". I wrote about killing scorpions in one of my very first posts and it still brings many readers to my site each and every week.

Barney Moran who works at Lijit writes a blog called The Official Blog of the Grateful Web. Back in August of '07, Barney chose In Repose Blog as one of his five picks for BLOG DAY.

You may never think to search on “Last Wishes” or “Cemetery” for your whole life. Then it ends, and hopefully someone you love does for you. When I found In Repose through Lijit, I was immediately reminded of my rare but recurring realization how little we contemplate such an important chapter in our and our loved ones lives. The Buddha advised being with a sentient being during their death is a very special gift. In Repose covers this material with great class and empathy.  I find myself drawn into each story, and reluctant to leave the In Repose site once there. THANK YOU.

Barney, its a little late in coming, but Thank YOU for your very nice words , and also for choosing In Repose Blog for your Blog Day pick. Also thank Tara and everyone else at Lijit for my super cool neat-o badge. I love it.

Its nice to know you still like me too.
