Eight Belles, Second in the KY Derby, and Dead

Horrible. Just horrible. The beautiful, lithe filly ran her heart out. Then shattered both front ankles after the finish.

The horse world has had a rough couple of weeks and this caps it off in the worst way.

Thoroughbred horse breeders need to think about stronger limbs, bigger bones and shorter, balanced hooves.

Excuse me I am now going out to hug my own horses.

RIP Eight Belles.

My sobbing heart goes out to the beautiful gray filly, Eight Belles. From the Reuter pictures of the heavy-set trainer riding her, it appears that he was riding high at her neck which would place much pressure on her front legs. There must be a way to examine the legs of prized horses before they at brought to the track. However, what I truly want to know is, why the owners declined to try and SAVE HER LIFE!

My son is at the Derby, can't wait to hear about his experience.

Heard about this today. :( Sooooooooooooooooooooooooo sad. :(
